Sorry it's taken so long to write anything. Since we've been home my time is mostly taken up by laying on the couch and making one Jaela-sized pumpkin costume.

Jaela is doing pretty good pain wise. She is sore and we can tell that her joints get stiff but she's trying to roll with her splints on and trying to scoot a little bit as well. This is the best picture I have of her splints. She is supposed to wear them for 3-4 weeks and three will be on Tuesday. We think she'll be ok with the right one taken off because she only had the one bone rodded on that side but we'll probably leave the left one on longer, or at least keep her tibia splinted. Since it's just ace wraps keeping the splints on I'll be able to take them off at home. I won't need a doctor to do it. She will have to go to Primary's in a few weeks for follow-up x-rays but that should be all the additional care she'll need. 

This is the reason we'll leave the tibia splinted a little longer. Because it was bowed so bad the doctor had to cut straight through the bone and leave a gap. It's a little hard to see, but where the arrows are is where her bone isn't connected. We can tell that this part hurts the worst still and want to give it more time to heal.

This is the x-ray of her left femur. Looks pretty good, doesn't it? :)

And this is her right femur. 

The doctor told me afterwards that even though the right femur looked straight on the x-rays before surgery, that it was actually bowed 40 degrees which is actually more than the tibia on the same leg.

We get asked a lot if we're disappointed or upset that the doctor didn't rod the right tibia and the answer is a definite no. We had prayed before-hand for the doctor and for him to be inspired and do what was best for Jaela. He came out mid-surgery and told me that he didn't feel comfortable going on. He didn't want to risk having to give her a blood infusion and didn't feel like the risks outweighed the benefits. So I'm glad he stopped when he felt like he needed to. We can always have it rodded later and it will be a lot easier to have just one done instead of three and we may even do it at Primary's instead of going to Omaha.
